We’ve got some tips, tricks, and simple swaps that will allow you to make more sustainable and eco-friendly choices easily throughout 2022, so you can stick to your sustainable goals without feeling totally overwhelmed. Sound good? Keep reading!
We’ve listed some of our favourite tips to start living a more eco-friendly lifestyle down below, but as always, make sure you leave a comment if you’ve got any suggestions or comments – we’re always on the lookout for more!
1. Grab a tote!
We all know plastic bags are Not Good when it comes to the environment…but when you’re in a rush or get sidetracked into an unexpected purchase, it’s all too easy to be caught short, without a spare reusable shopper. That’s why the easiest shop you can make for 2022 is to keep a spare tote with you wherever you’re most likely to use it – leave it in the car, in your handbag or gym kit, or even just pop it on the coat rack so you know you’ll see it when you’re on your way out the door, and you’ll be far less likely to opt for that pesky plastic bag!
2. Go meat free!
Okay, hear us out: opting out of meat occasionally can seriously help the environment! It’s thought that every household that skips on meat for a meal can reduce their carbon footprint by up to 8 pounds, which is pretty impressive, if you ask us!
In fact, some researchers believe that if every household in the world reduced meat consumption by taking part in Meatless Mondays, it would have the same impact on greenhouse emissions as taking 240 million cars off the road each year!
3. Drink out of something reusable
As we’ve mentioned previously, single-use plastics, like those used in plastic bottles are one of the single most harmful materials to the planet; luckily, though, they can easily be avoided by purchasing a reusable water bottle to take with you, instead of purchasing bottled water – plus, you’ll save money, too!
Unfortunately, your favourite coffee shop also likely isn’t particularly eco-friendly, as takeaway coffee containers are also incredibly harmful to the environment; that’s why we’d recommend also stocking up on a reusable coffee cup if you tend to take them to go often – plus, many coffee chains offer discounts for using this more sustainable option, so it’s a real win/win!
4. Recycle, Upcycle, and Reuse
Okay, so we mention these points a lot on the RAINE Clothing blog, but they’re staples of any eco-friendly lifestyle; reusing, upcycling, or recycling products has a significant impact on the environment, and they’re important everyday practices to try and undertake. You can read more on our top suggestions here, but even if you don’t have tonnes of time to upcycle your items, a basic ‘wash, squash, recycle’ is a great place to start for any household.
Don’t forget, if you have children, that they might love to use old packaging for arts and crafts!
5. Shop sustainable (clothing!)
Well, okay, you should definitely try and shop in more eco-friendly places where possible in general, but in case you hadn’t guessed, we’re incredibly passionate about sustainable, eco-friendly, durable clothing here at RAINE Clothing, and for good reason – fast fashion can be incredibly harmful to the planet, and shopping more ‘slow’ fashion brands, which focus on creating high quality clothing that lasts.
Don’t forget, shopping second hand is a great way to kick a fast fashion habit – check out our blog post on the subject for more tips!
