That’s why we’re always on the look out for exciting new technologies and fabrics that can make sustainable fashion more accessible for everyone.
Today, we’re excited to share all about our latest innovative addition to the RAINE Clothing range; our newest MMA Shorts, which utilise an exciting new fabric – Coconut Recycled Carbon Polyester! This is a really interesting new sustainable option when it comes to clothing, so read on if you’d like to find out more!
What is Coconut Recycled Carbon Polyester?
If you’ve read our blog post on ‘5 of the best eco-friendly fabrics to add to your wardrobe‘, you’ll likely be a little bit familiar with Coconut Recycled Carbon Polyester already – but if not, don’t worry! It’s a relatively new fabric which is just starting to gain recognition within the clothing industry for its sustainable properties.
As its name would suggest, Coconut Recycled Carbon Polyester contains, you guessed it, coconuts – or, their shells, to be more specific – which are a by-product of the food industry, and would otherwise be discarded. Instead, these coconut shells are burned, creating an activated charcoal which can then be used to coat yarns of recycled polyester which are then woven into fabric. It’s important to ensure, when looking at coconut fibre fabrics, that they are blended with recycled polyester, as some alternatives on the market are created using ‘virgin polyester’, meaning they’re likely causing more harm than good to the environment. You can read more about the benefits of using recycled polyester, as opposed to the alternative, here.
What are the benefits in using Coconut Recycled Carbon Polyester in MMA shorts?
Besides the obvious environmental benefits of using Coconut Recycled Carbon Polyester in clothing, there are plenty of other reasons why this sustainable fabric is a great choice, particularly for sports and casual wear, due to the activated charcoal which is used to coat the yarns of rPET within this fabric. This is because the fabric retains the charcoal’s reactivity, even once woven, so that the fabric is highly porous, and is therefore able to absorb moisture, odours, and UV rays.
What does this mean for you? Well, not only is Coconut Recycled Carbon Polyester moisture-wicking, as with most of our incredible sportswear, but it’s also odour-absorbing and anti-UV, too. This means that you’re less likely to notice a distinctive odour on you or your clothing whilst you’re working up a sweat, and also that you have some partial protection from the sun’s rays whilst covered by this fabric – so whether you’re working out indoors or outdoors, you’re able to do so comfortably and confidently, safe in the knowledge that you’re fully supported by your RAINE Clothing MMA shorts.
Our new MMA shorts contain 51% recycled polyester, 37% coconut recycled carbon polyester, and 12% spandex, making them a highly viable ethical and sustainable fashion choice.
We hope you’ve enjoyed learning about the latest innovation in our incredible RAINE Clothing collection; we’re very excited to be able to offer you such comfortable, durable, and practical MMA shorts, and we hope you’ll enjoy wearing them!
