Happy World Environment Day! Today marks the United Nations’ day which encourages us all to make more ethically and ecologically conscious choices to help protect our previous environment. The 2021 World Environment Day theme is ecosystem restoration, and focuses on the ways in which we as both individuals and a collective can help to restore the damage done to vital ecosystems globally, by repairing damaged areas of land – such as forests and wetlands – so that animals and humans alike can have access to safe habitats and clean drinking water.
What Makes Sustainable Choices so Important?
Leading scientists in the area of sustainability and environmental sciences have defined the next 10 years as the ‘decade of action’ – part of a global goal set out by the United Nations to make impactful changes to the planet by 2030, which has been deemed as the most critical period in changing the trajectory of environmental degradation that the earth is currently on.
That’s why it’s as important now as it’s ever been to do your part for the environment – the next 10 years could seriously prevent catastrophic changes to the world climate, as long as we all work together.
What Are you Doing to Help at RAINE Clothing?
As you’ll have seen in our Companies that Care Day blog post and our ‘about us’ page, at RAINE Clothing, we’re totally committed to ensuring our customers have access to eco-friendly, sustainable fashion that’s made to be both durable and comfortable. We do this to help combat the rise in fast fashion brands, as the fashion industry is thought to account for about 10% of global carbon emissions, and fast fashion clothing companies, naturally, have a significant impact on this figure.
By choosing to create our garments with more sustainable fabrics like organic cotton, and ensuring our clothing is made to last, we at RAINE are ensuring our carbon footprint stays low, whilst trying to combat the overconsumption of clothes.

What Can I do to Help this World Environment Day?
We all depend on healthy ecosystems to live happy, healthy lives, and that’s why it’s so important to get involved where you can, both with small day-to-day actions and more sustainable long-term lifestyle changes. Actions that you can undertake include researching your local council’s recycling policies to better understand what you can and can’t pop in your recycling bin, getting the whole family involved by building a bee hotel or bird house to improve local wildlife in your area, and shopping at more sustainable brands so that you can be confident in the knowledge that you’re not contributing to the fashion, textile, or single-use plastic industries.
